第八章 元音字组在重读音节中的读音

元音字母只有五个，但元音字组数量较多，常用的也有十几个。许多元音字组在重读音节中还会有不同的读音，记忆起来比较困难。给元音字组分类，目的是为了方便学者识记。元音字组分为 -r 音节、 -re 音节和普通 元音字组三类。

辅音字母r双写时，前面的元音字母不能与r构成-r音节,而是按重读闭音节的拼读规则发音。例如： carry berry mirror sorry hurry

关于三元音的问题

在有的词中需要引入三元音这个概念，如fire这个词中，ire是一个字组，理应对应一个音素，这里可以说[a]是一个音素。可以被称作三元音。quiet又属于另一种情况，ie作为一个字组时发[i:]音，发[a]音时ie就不是一个字组，郎文字典将其标注为双音节词是有道理的；pioneer[pan]也属于这种情况，i、o是两个元字组，现所应该对应两个音素，这里的[a]就不应该被看作是一个三元音了。类似的情况还有：our devour flour scour 和 sour。flower[au]是个另类，两个拼写基本单位ow、er理应对应两个音素，所以[au]在这个词中就不是三元音，类似的词还有power，shower。一个字组对应一个音素，所以有时把[au]看作一个音素（三元音），有时被看作两个音素（[au + ]）。

-re音节变体的读音：在重读元音字母 + r 的后面加上非重读元字组，r前面的元音字母按-re音节在重读音节的规则发音；在长音短化时，-r前面的元音字母按重读闭音节的规则发音。

关于-re音节元音字组的变体

1.看上去象-r音节元音字组，但实际上不是，也不可能按-r音节拼读规则发音。

2.按-re音节元音字组在重读音节中的拼读规则发音，但其拼写形式不是完整的-re音节元音字组。

3.长音短化后的-re音节，其中的元音字母按其在闭音节中的拼读规则发音，但-re音节变体并不等同于闭音节。

-re音节元音字组的变体既不是-r音节元音字组、-re音节元音字组，也不是闭音节，而是一种特殊的拼写结构，即“元音字母 + r + 元字组”，可简称为-re音节变体。
