指開會時，擔任主席(to be chairperson of a meeting)

例如﹕

Bob will be in the chair for our next meeting.

下次開會，Bob將擔任主席。

The committee members have selected Mr. A to be in the chair for a two-year term.

委員會成員選拔A先生擔任兩年任期的主席。

As Bob has been in the chair for a long time, it is time for an election.

Bob擔任主席很久了，現在該是選舉的時候。

To some people, to be in the chair can be stressful.

to be in the dark﹕

指對某事毫不知情；沒被告知，(not to be informed; to be ignorant of something)

這來自主人對狗處罰而放在戶外狗窩。這裡是指受冷落，或失寵(to be in disgrace or in someone's disfavor)

例如﹕

After several years of marriage, Mr. B was in the doghouse.

結婚數年後，B先生受冷落。

Despite his brown-nosing to his boss, Mr. B is still in the doghouse.

即使B先生對老闆拍馬，但仍然失寵。(brown-nose原意是舔人屁股，不禮貌，但還是常用)

Generally speaking the step-children will be in the doghouse if their mother gets remarried.

一般而言，如果母親再嫁，前夫或前妻的孩子將受冷落。

to be in the limelight﹕

limelight本是舞台上照明用的聚光燈，這裡是引人注目，或受到大眾的注意。(to get much attention or publicity)

例如﹕

Many people are trying so hard to be in the limelight.

許多人千方百計想得到大眾的注目。

Over the past years, Mr. A has been in the limelight for his charitable contributions.

過去多年來，A先生由於對慈善事業的貢獻而出盡風頭。

For personal reason, Mr. B wished he would not have been in the limelight last week.

由於個人原因，B先生真盼望他上周沒有引人注目。

(但實際上已經引人注目了，這是假設語態與過去事實相反)
