　　Freshers Week is the term that UK universities and colleges give tothe period immediately before the beginning of a new academic year。

　　新生周，顾名思义，就是指英国的大学和学院开学前的第一个星期。

　　Its purpose is to give new students a chance to meet theirhousemates, make new friends and sort out administration tasks such asopening student bank accounts. Freshers week is usually based around aseries of social events such as discos, live bands, parties…and aFreshers Week Ball。

　　新生周给新生机会去认识室友，交新朋友，完成一些行政相关事宜比如开一个银行账户之类的。在新生周通常会举办一系列的社交活动，比如舞会和演唱会以及聚会。

　　As well as providing a chance to learn about the university,Fresher's week allows students to become familiar with therepresentatives of their Student Union and to get to know the city ortown which is home to the university, often through some form of pubcrawl。

　　作为新生周的重要作用，新生周也为学生提供一个了解自己的大学和学生会代表的机会，借此机会他们也会通过泡吧等方式对自己大学所在的城市更为了解。

　　Live music is common, as are a number of organized socialgatherings especially designed to allow freshers to make new friends andto get to know their course colleagues. Because of the intensity ofactivities, there are often many new friendships made, especially ingroup accommodation, some which do not last past Freshers Week andothers that last for the whole University career and longer。

　　音乐会非常常见，因为会有若干个社团组织这样的聚会，这些聚会都是为了让新生结交新朋友，同时对学习方面的相关人士更为熟悉。由于这些聚会的密集程度非常高，因此会产生众多的交友机会，尤其是在公寓中举行的，这些友谊有些无法延伸到新生周之后，但是有些却可以长达整个留学生涯，甚至到离开学校之后。
