Why English is So Important?  为什么英语如此重要？
As an essential1 tool for communication and cooperation as well as an important part of national culture, English will play an important role in the preparations for the Olympics. As the host city for the 2008 Olympics, Beijing should be able to provide good services to athletes and guests from over 200 countries and regions. The most common language of international communication is English. The first task Beijing should accomplish2 is to create an environment for appropriate and efficient language exchange and communication. If this task is not done, the overall outcome3 will fall short of4 excellence, even though the sports facilities may be modern and services well provided.
作为交流合作的必要工具以及民族文化的重要组成部分，英语在奥运会筹备方面扮演着重要的角色。北京作为2008年奥运会的主办城市，应该为来自世界200多个国家及地区的运动员和来宾提供优质的服务。国际交流中最常用的语言就是英语。北京首先要完成的任务是营造一个适当、有效的语言交流和沟通氛围。如果这项任务未能完成，即使体育设施再先进、服务质量再好，总体结果也不能称之为完美。
