According to a recent research by scientists from the UniversityCollege London and University of Milan-Bicocca, looking at the injectionas it plunges into your skin will actually lessen how painful it feels。

Scientists applied a heat probe to the hands of 18 volunteers. Theyfound that the participants were able to withstand higher temperatureswhen they could see their hand in a mirror compared to when the imagewas obscured with a block of wood。

Magnifying the hand in a convex mirror cut pain levels furtherstill. Volunteers on average could tolerate 3C more heat when looking attheir hand than when they didn't。

Study co-author Patrick Haggard said: "We've shown there is aninteresting interaction between the brain's visual networks and thebrain's pain networks." As for the advice, he said:" My advice would beto look at your arm, but try to avoid seeing the needle - if that'spossible."
