With Dragon Boat Festival, which falls on June 6 this year, restaurants are offering many different varieties of zongzi, or sticky rice dumplings with filling, and in a variety of different formats too – including served directly off the body of beautiful women.

Recently a restaurant in Changsha decided to mix the tradition with something Japanese and launched a Zongzi Nyataimori promotion which has stirred great controversy in China.

During the ostentatious show of body zongzi, the model was not only used as a platter to serve the traditional snacks, but as a cutting board for the chef as well.

In China's traditional culture, the Dragon Boat Festival is best known for its dragon-boat races, especially in the southern provinces where there are many rivers and lakes. This regatta commemorates the death of Qu Yuan , who is upright, loyal and highly esteemed for his wise counsel that brought peace and prosperity to the state. This honest minister is said to have committed suicide by drowning himself in a river.

The people who mourned the death of Qu threw rice into the river to feed his ghost every year on the fifth day of the fifth month. During the Festival, a glutinous rice pudding called zong zi is eaten to symbolize the rice offerings to Qu.

So some people criticize that such "pornography-like" performance will destroy the sound cultural atmosphere which is more like an insult rather than the claimed culture inheritance.

Others said that it also reflected another problem----cultural erosion. In order to pursue profit, many people take the traditional festivals as opportunities to make money, ignoring or paying little attention to the cultural protection. In order to make money, some merchants rack their brains trying to promote the products, even if the way they adopt may destroy Chinese culture.
