Nigeria's top electoral supervisor said Friday that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is confident in holding a hitch-free presidential election on Saturday.

In a meeting with African Union observers, INEC Chairman Atahiru Jega said the commission has "done everything humanly possible to address those challenges that have come to our attention" since the parliamentary election held earlier this month.

He said the electoral body has formulated a series of measures that would guarantee a hitch-free poll.

"We took quite a number of decisions which were being fully implemented by Thursday, and this gives us confidence" that those problems seen in the past will not be repeated Saturday, he said.

The INEC is pleased with the preparations by security agencies, and is looking forward to Saturday's election, which will satisfy the aspiration of the Nigerian people for free, fair and credible elections, he said.
