The Chinese rhythmic gymnastics championships opened here on Tuesday with the participation of over 100 athletes.

China's top gymnasts missed out on the week-long event because they are preparing for international competitions.

Less known athletes like Peng Linyi, Hou Yanan and Deng Senyue, who helped China finish fifth in the 2010 Asian Games, will vie for gold in Guiyang.
