ISLAMABAD, March 25 (Xinhua) -- At least 16 people have been killed in the last 24 hours in Pakistan's southern coastal city of Karachi as the result of the ongoing wave of target killing, police said Friday morning.
Panic has gripped several parts of the metropolis and business and daily life activities have been affected severely.
According to local media reports, people were shot dead by unknown people who came on motorbikes and ran away after shooting. Some people were kidnapped first and then their bullets-ridden bodies were dumped in deserted places.
Tension gripped the city after these incidents. People are facing insecurity in spite of the armed patrol by the police and rangers in the city.
According to police reports, more than 185 people have been killed in the city since the start of March. Pakistani president Asif Ali Zardari, in his annual address to the joint session of the parliament on March 22, promised to control the target killings in Karachi, however, government could do nothing until now.
