The PaperPhone is flexible and can be controlled by being bent, written on or used as a touchscreen。
The PaperPhone, built to determine how people use a flexibledevice, is a collaboration between researchers from Queen’s Universityin Kingston, Canada, Arizona State University, USA, researchers from theE-Ink Corporation。
“This is the future. Everything is going to look and feel like thiswithin five years,” Roel Vertegaal, director of the human media lab atQueen’s, said. “This computer looks, feels and operates like a smallsheet of interactive paper。”
The epaper sheet, which uses the same e-Ink technology found in theAmazon Kindle ereader, is just millimetres thick and can be used tomake phone calls, read ebooks and play music。
The researchers say that this technology could eventually mean theend of paper and printers. Dr Vertegaal said: “The paperless office ishere. Everything can be stored digitally and you can place thesecomputers on top of each other, just like a stack of paper。”
The PaperPhone will be displayed at the Association of ComputingMachinery’s CHI 2011 conference in Vancouver, Canada, on May 10.
加拿大研究人员日前研发了一款使用电子纸制作的智能“纸手机”。
这款“纸手机”非常轻薄，而且还可以通过弯曲、书写、或当作触摸屏使用进行相应操作。
该手机是由位于加拿大金斯敦的女王大学、美国亚利桑那州立大学、以及“电子墨水”公司三家机构的研究人员共同研制的，用以明确人们如何使用轻薄可弯曲的电子产品。
女王大学人类媒体实验室主任罗尔?维特加尔说：“‘纸手机’将引领未来的手机潮流。五年内，同类产品都将有相似外观和触感。它的外观、触感和使用方式都像一张很小的互动卡片。”
这款纸手机仅有几毫米厚，使用的电子墨水技术和亚马逊Kindle电子书相同，可以打电话、阅读电子书、听音乐。
研究人员称，这种技术将终结纸和印刷时代。维特加尔博士说：“无纸化办公就可以这样实现。所有信息都可以实现电子存储，你还可以把这些小计算机摞在一起，就像一叠纸。”
研究人员将于5月10日在加拿大温哥华举办的电子计算机协会2011人机交互会议上正式推介这款手机。
