An international conference themed "Resources, Environment, Development" was held on Monday in Perth of Western Australia, which was the first conference in Australia hosted by the Boao Forum for Asia (BFA).

At the opening ceremony of BFA Energy, Resources & Sustainable Development Conference, Zhou Wenzhong, BFA's Secretary General said that the Perth Conference was held in association with the government of Western Australia.

He said during the two-day conference, delegates will share their views upon stock of global supply and demand of resources and energy, explore innovative solutions to energy constraints and climate change challenges, and share visions and insights on growth and sustainability.

Western Australia Premier Colin Barnett said that it is a natural choice that the BFA hosts this conference in Perth, the capital city of Western Australia.

He said Western Australia always had close economic and social relationships with the countries in the Asian region, especially in mining and energy resources. Barnett also mentioned Western Australia's future endeavors in liquefied natural gas production, as well as the railway expansions and he believed that Asia and Australia share a bright future in integration and cooperation of relevant areas.

The Chairman of the BFA Board Fukuda Yasuo said that for the past 10 years since its establishment, the BFA has been always a sound platform for Asian nations to boost economic ties. He said currently the Asian emerging economies need to work on economic transformation to a more sustainable model while the major developed nations are caught by dampened growth or even debt crisis.

He said at this historical moment it is particularly important for stakeholders of the global economy to cooperate in Resources, Environment, Development and economic sustainability and this conference is no doubt a good occasion.

As a non-governmental, non-profit international organization, Boao Forum For Asia (BFA) is the most prestigious and premier forum for leaders in governments, business and academia in Asia and other continents to share visions on the most pressing issues in this dynamic region and the world at large. The Forum is committed to promoting regional economic integration and bringing Asian countries even closer to their development goals.
