                               Psalm of Life 人生礼赞

作者:Henry Wadsworth Longfellow (1807-1882)

海外逸士 译  来源:爱思英语

                                    TELL me not, in mournful numbers,

                                    Life is but an empty dream! —

                                    For the soul is dead that slumbers,

                                    And things are not what they seem.

                                    Life is real !   Life is earnest!

                                    And the grave is not its goal;

                                    Dust thou art, to dust returnest,

                                    Was not spoken of the soul.

                                    Not enjoyment, and not sorrow,

                                    Is our destined end or way;

                                    But to act, that each to-morrow

                                    Find us farther than to-day.

                                    Art is long, and Time is fleeting,

                                    And our hearts, though stout and brave,

                                    Still, like muffled drums, are beating

                                    Funeral marches to the grave.

                                    In the world's broad field of battle,

                                    In the bivouac of Life,

                                    Be not like dumb, driven cattle!

                                    Be a hero in the strife!

                                    Trust no Future, howe'er pleasant!

                                    Let the dead Past bury its dead!

                                    Act,— act in the living Present!

                                    Heart within, and God o'erhead!

                                    Lives of great men all remind us

                                    We can make our lives sublime,

                                    And, departing, leave behind us

                                    Footprints on the sands of time;

                                    Footprints, that perhaps another,

                                    Sailing o'er life's solemn main,

                                    A forlorn and shipwrecked brother,

                                    Seeing, shall take heart again.

                                    Let us, then, be up and doing,

                                    With a heart for any fate;

                                    Still achieving, still pursuing,

                                    Learn to labor and to wait.

                                                         生命篇
                  悲句莫我示:浮生虚若梦。魂睡实犹死,事非表像同。

                  吾生诚且真,其终岂丘坟。土生虽土归,言身非言魂。

                  无欢亦无愁,命途非必达。为人须自强,翌日胜今日。

                  有涯度无涯,吾心虽壮勇;亦吟蒿里行,行行向丘冢。

                  此世等疆场,此生如逆旅。愿作英豪争,勿若牛被驱。

                  莫信未来乐,逝者任往休。自强须及时,心正神上佑。

                  前人丰功著,吾人亦可尔。身后留业迹,与时共磨移。

                  迹或他人留,苦海扬帆行;沉舟幸活者,见之为振奋。

                  吾侪须奋发,穷通莫在意。惨淡创宏图,应知勤以俟。
