Freshwater mussels are seen on a dry lake in Xiaochang County, central China's Hubei Province on May 3, 2011. Central China's Hubei Province has been plagued by a lingering spring drought, which has caused several lakes to shrink drastically. About 150,000 people and 50,000 livestock have had difficulty getting drinking water as a result of the drought. Approximately 1.6 million acres of farmland have been affected by the drought.
