Li Changchun, a senior official of the Communist Party of China (CPC), has pledged to enhance all-round partnership with Romania as he forwarded Chinese President Hu Jintao's letter to Romanian President Traian Basescu.

Li, a member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Central Committee Political Bureau, made the pledge during a meeting Thursday with Romanian President Traian Basescu.

Hu hailed China-Romania friendship and praised Basescu's efforts in developing bilateral ties in the letter.

"No matter how international situation changes, China's policy of developing all-round friendly cooperative partnership with Romania remains unchanged," Hu said.

Hu also wished to meet Basescu again in the future.

Li said Romania is a "reliable full-time friend and partner to China" as the two countries' friendship has withstood the test of history and international changes and has enjoyed a good momentum on all fields from political trust, trade to culture and scientific exchange in recent years.

China is willing to work together with Romania to transform their good political bilateral relations into practical advantages in mutually beneficial cooperation in different areas and to create a better future for both countries. Li said.

Calling the Chinese people "friends" of the Romanian people, Basescu said Romania attaches great importance to traditional friendly ties between two countries and appreciates China's support and assistance in Romania's difficult time.

He echoed Li's words saying Romania and China have maintained a good momentum in political, economic, cultural and other fields and hoped to further explore bilateral economic and trade cooperation.

As a member of the European Union, Romania is also ready to serve as a bridge between China and Europe, Basescu added.

Li met with Romanian and Chinese enterprisers at a breakfast meeting Thursday and encouraged them to conduct win-win cooperation.

Li also raised four proposals to fully tap the potential in the trade and economic cooperation between China and Romania to boost bilateral trade and economic ties.

The proposals embrace deepening cooperation of mutual benefit and consolidating traditional friendship to enrich the all-round friendly and cooperative partnership between China and Romania; expanding trade and enhancing a balanced development; exploring new ways to widen cooperation and developing new trade boosters; creating inter-acting mechanisms to ensure communications between enterprises.

Li arrived in Bucharest Wednesday for a two-day official goodwill visit to Romania and concluded the trip on Friday. He met with other Romanian leaders, including Senate Speaker Mircea Geoana, Prime Minister Emil Boc, and Vice Prime Minister Marko Bela.
