Harbor Scene Compote

This is a rare compote made by Meissen in about 1745. The sideview is superb but do scroll down to the last pictures of the inside of the bowl and it is well worth it :) The compote has a figural foot of two putti on a roch base decoarted with flowers, leaves and grass. The putti are wearing just a small cloth nicely handpainted in the style of the time but what makes this piece top is the bowl as I said before. The outside is decorated with four nice large floral arrangements as well as some smaller flowers and leaves. The inside is what makes this one of my favorite peices ever. It is decorated with four harbor / merchant scene cartouches surrounded by some of the best gilding you could want brought out with some black highlights. The rim of the bowl has the same fancy gilding on it as well. And now to the part that amazed me - it is pretty much in perfect condition. Almost zero wear to the gilding, the screw is original as is the cement holding it together. The only flaws are a few chips to the leaves on the rock base underneath the putti! There are six leaves chipped of which 5 are minor and one is missing a good bit. None of it is obvious nor does it matter on a piece this old and good :) It is rather large being 10.75 inches tall with the bowl being 8.375 inches wide and 7.25 inches deep. The compote is unmarked underneath but certainly Meissen from this period. It is not uncommon for pieces to be unmarked during the early days of Meissen but the bottom of the base gives it away every time as does the quality!
