Thousands of people gathered in downtown Cairo with various demands on Friday despite a recent power transfer timetable unveiled by the country's supreme military council.
The people, including media staff and political figures, gathered in the Tahrir Square, the epicenter of the anti-government protests which began on Jan. 25 and forced former President Hosni Mubarak to step down on Feb. 11.
They demanded the trial of Mubarak and other top officials in the previous government.
They also called for an immediate cancellation of taxes on food commodities and removing media institutions of old leadership and implementation of a court ruling on a minimum wage, among others, official MENA news agency said.
Protests have become almost daily in Egypt after the fall of Mubarak, with new demands to be put forward.
To restore normalcy, the interim government has passed a draft law which bans strikes and protests if they harm public or private interests. But the law has aroused fierce opposition.
Egypt will hold parliamentary elections in September and elect a new president by November, according to the Supreme Council of Armed Forces who has been in power since Feb. 11.
