Carrie (voiceover): I didn’t go to my high school reunion, so when my high school sweetheart called me for a reunion, I was curious to see if he looked like the boy I used to make out with in front of my locker.
Carrie（旁白）：我没去过高中校友会，所以，当高中时的男友打电话叫我去时，我很想看看他还像不像那个曾经和我在储物柜前亲热的男孩。
Jeremy: Excuse me, can you tell me how to get to chemistry class?
Jeremy:（微笑着走过来）打扰一下，能告诉我上化学课怎么走吗？
Carrie (voiceover): Actually, he looked better.
Carrie（旁白）：事实上，他看起来更好了。
Carrie: Oh my god, it?s Jeremy. Wow!

Jeremy: That?s my name, and don?t wear it out.

Carrie: You look great!
Carrie：你看起来真不错！
Jeremy: I knew you looked great because I saw you on the cover of your book.
Jeremy：我知道你气色很好。我从你写的书的封面上看见的。
Carrie: Oh,
Carrie：哦。
Jeremy: But, I have to say, even better in person.

Carrie: Oh God, I am so glad you called.

Jeremy: I am going to be spending the month in Connecticut, so I had to look you up.

Carrie: Well, my high school boyfriend spoiled me for life.

Carrie: Oh, the Pacer. Oh, man.

Jeremy: I put our names down for a table.

Jeremy: But, earlier you said you maybe you might have dinner plans. Is that in case I turned out to be a…

Carrie: Yeah, maybe. But, my fictional plans fell through, so I?m available.

（晚些时候。Jeremy和Carrie走在马路上。显然他们那晚过得不错。）
Carrie: Hey, I didn?t even ask what you were doing in Connecticut.

Jeremy: Nothing for a change. I spent the last decade working my ass off in Denver. So, I decided to take a month off. Spend some time at sea-level. So, I?ve just been relaxing in the country, sorting some things out, you know?

Carrie: Yeah, sometimes you need to get away.

【场景三】

（Carrie和Jeremy躺在床上接吻）
Carrie (voiceover): Meanwhile, I invited Jeremy to come over and watch a movie, which in high school, was code for come over and make out. And happily, it still was.

Jeremy: Oh, I gotta run. The last train leaves in half an hour. (kisses her)

Jeremy: I'm not really just taking a month off. I am I am sort of in a mental institution.

Carrie (voiceover): No, actually, THAT is the worst thing you can hear.

Jeremy: Listen, I know I threw you for a loop last night. I probably should have said something right up front, but the truth is I haven?t really worked out my ‘rap’ on this yet.

Carrie: Carrie: Yeah, it?s a tough thing to slip in.

Jeremy: It is. Hi, I might be crazy. Would you like to share an appetizer? (Carrie giggles) The thing is I think I made it sound worse than it is. If you see Juno-Spears, you?d see isn?t some cuckoo?s nest, it is more like Canyon Ranch for the brain.

Carrie: Do they have pilates?

Jeremy: They do have pilates! I don?t want to lie to you, I am going through some pretty heavy stuff. Soul-searching really. Trying to figure out why some things are harder for me than they are for other people. I think my family has something to do with that. Always good to blame the parents, right?

Jeremy: I can live with that. You?re not bad yourself either, you know. (He walks towards her and kisses her.)
Jeremy：我还是那样。你也不赖。（他走过去吻了Carrie）
Carrie (voiceover): That night we went all the way, and we weren?t the only ones.
Carrie（旁白）：那晚，我们进行到底了，而且我们并不是唯一的一对儿。

【场景五】

（第二天，Juno-Spears精神病院。Carrie经过重重铁门来到登记处。Jeremy站在隔离区的另一边，手里拿着一个写着『Bradshaw』的牌子。两人相视而笑）
Carrie (voiceover): Apparently the Juno-Spears center is harder than the Soho House to get into, or out of.
Carrie（旁白）：显然，进出Juno-Spears比Soho House还要难。（译注：Soho House，著名私人俱乐部）
（草坪上）
Carrie (voiceover): Even as a visitor, I could see how this was a very relaxing place to get away to.
Carrie（旁白）：即使只是做为一名访客，我也能感受出为何这是一个让人远离俗世放松的地方。
（两人在吃野餐）
Jeremy: It's kind of nice huh?
Jeremy：这地方不错吧？
Carrie: Mmm Hmm.
Carrie：嗯，嗯。
eremy: They have great hiking trails all around here. Maybe later we can do a hike.
Jeremy：周围有很多远足旅行的路线。也许过会儿我们可以去走走。
Carrie: Oh, I don?t really hike.

Jeremy: Neither do I. But, I will fill you in on something I discovered. Hiking is walking.

Carrie (voiceover): I started to think maybe the Juno-Spears center should be mandatory for New Yorkers, like the Hamptons or Fire Island.

Another patient: Feces! Feces! Feces!

Jeremy: I guess that doesn?t happen very often at Canyon Ranch.

Jeremy: Who am I kidding? This is a full on psychiatric facility.

Carrie: With pilates! You?re definitely the sanest person here.

Jeremy: Thank you. But, that is like being the best house on a bad block. People would advise you against buying it. Maybe, it just wasn?t the wisest thing to start something in here. Maybe, when I get out in 8 to 10 months.

作点贡献,转贴(非原创)一个比较老的笔记(unfortunately,后来作者似乎没有更新),希望对大家有帮助略去作者的前言)
The One Where Monica Gets a New Roommate (The Pilot)
*pilot: 原意是导航员,在这里是指试播.一般美国在一个电视节目正式播出之前会先推出一集来测试节目播出效果,以对节目内容和播出时间作适当调整.

SCENE 1: CENTRAL PERK. (ALL PRESENT EXCEPT RACHEL AND ROSS)
*Central perk:众所周知NEW YORK 有一个CENTRAL PARK (中央公园),所以这个咖啡馆取名为CENTRAL PERK, 因为 PERK 和PARK 谐音.英语中有很多类似这种谐音的用法,类似我们汉语里的同音/谐音词.

MONICA: There's nothing to tell! He's just some guy I work with!

JOEY: C'mon, you're going out with the guy! There's gotta be something wrong with him.

这里很明显JOEY在取笑MONICA.也说明MONICA以前交往的男友,其他人都不喜欢,这也为本季后面一集的故事做了铺垫.
*gotta: 口语中常用. 等于going to.类似的用法还有: wanna=want to
*something wrong with sb./sth. 某人/某事有问题,不对劲

CHANDLER: So does he have a hump? A hump and a hairpiece?

*hump: 驼背
*hairpiece: a piece of false hair used to make one’s own hair seem thicker,假发

*这是典型的CHANDLER的讽刺.

PHOEBE: Wait, does he eat chalk?
*PHOEBE的幽默,有点象我们所说的无厘头式的幽默.顺便说一句,FRIENDS在美国播了10年,这些演员也演了10年同样的角色,而且每个演员都赋予他/她所饰演的角色一些很鲜明的个性.这些个性的表露都是很自然,不漏声色的,需要我们从角色的每一句台词,每一个细微的动作,表情或眼神中去细细品位个中的幽默之处.

(THE OTHERS STARE, BEMUSED)

*bemused:被逗乐了.

PHOEBE: Just, 'cause, I don't want her to go through what I went through with Carl- oh!

*PHOEBE开始解释了.Carl这个人物只在这里被提过一次,我们只能推断CARL是PHOEBE的前男友,而且此人可能有EAT CHALK的怪毛病.

MONICA: Okay, everybody relax. This is not even a date. It's just two people going out to dinner and- not having sex.

CHANDLER: Sounds like a date to me.

*很显然大家并不相信MONICA所说的这只是一个普通的约会的说法. 在美语中,DATE如果没有特殊说明就是指一男一女晚上一起约会,约会的内容往往是先吃饭,然后或者去看电影,或者再去酒吧什么的,更进一步的还会共度良宵.但这并不表明两人就已经是男女朋友的关系,一切还要看以后的发展.所以在美国当有人问你: ARE YOU DATING SOMEBODY? 并不一定是问你有没有男/女朋友, 而只是问你你有没有”候选人”.

(CUT TO SAME SET)

CHANDLER: Alright, so I'm back in high school, I'm standing in the middle of the cafeteria, and I realize I am totally naked.

*大家的话题从MONICA的DATE转移了.CHANDLER开始讲他的一个梦.
*CAFETERIA:在北美几乎所有的学校都有一个CAFETERIA.有的大一些的其实就象是我们的食堂,中午会有午餐出售,有的小一点的会有微波炉供大家热饭.而且CAFETERIA也是学生们举行聚会的一个重要场所. 而且CAFETERIA里通常都会有自动售货机,提供咖啡和饮料,所以这里也是学生们下课后的一个重要活动地点.所以CHANDLER在这样一个地方 NAKED,无疑是很尴尬的了.

ALL: Oh, yeah. Had that dream.

CHANDLER: Then I look down, and I realize there's a phone... there.
*从CHANDLER的表情和眼神看,我们知道他是指那个”重要”部位.
JOEY: Instead of...?

CHANDLER: That's right.

JOEY: Never had that dream.

PHOEBE: No.

CHANDLER: All of a sudden, the phone starts to ring. And it turns out it's my mother, which is very weird, because- she never calls me!

*ALL OF A SUDDEN: 突然地; =SUDDENLY
*turn out: 结果是. Eg. I was so worried about my exam scores, but it turns out to be very good.
*weird:奇怪的.这个词在日常生活中常用;与BIZARD同义. 从后面的故事中我们会知道CHANDLER和他父母的关系并不是很好.

(CUT TO SAME SET. ROSS HAS NOW ENTERED)

ROSS: (MORTIFIED) Hi.

*motified: motify的过去分词. 感情受到伤害的

JOEY: This guy says hello, I wanna kill myself.

*可见ROSS的HI是一个非常UNHAPPY的HI.

MONICA: Are you okay, sweetie?

*SWEETIE,甜心.这种称呼在美国使用的非常普遍,可以用于任何朋友,同事之间,但一般除了特别亲密的家人朋友之间(这种关系下,女的可以称呼男的 SWEETIE,象ROSS 和MONICA),往往只是男的称呼女的,或者女的之间,很少女的这么称呼男的,或者男的之间用.类似的用法还有:MY DEAR. 但是HONEY一般只是用于男女朋友或夫妻之间,不能滥用.

ROSS: I just feel like someone reached down my throat, grabbed my small intestine, pulled it out of my mouth and tied it around my neck...

*无疑ROSS现在的感觉是很痛苦的.这种感觉,我想有过痛苦经历的人,尤其是失恋经历的人可能都会有过,好象有人勒住了你的脖子,让你觉得好象都呼吸困难了,只是ROSS说的更形象一点吧: 好象有人把手伸进了他的喉咙,把他的小肠一把抓出,并绕在了他的脖子上.

CHANDLER: Cookie?

显然CHANDLER还不知道ROSS为什么会这样.

MONICA: (EXPLAINING TO THE OTHERS) Carol moved her stuff out today. (TO ROSS) Let me get you some coffee.

*CAROL是ROSS的前妻.和ROSS结婚后才慢慢意识到自己是一个女”同志”.所以和ROSS离婚了.
*stuff:泛指一些东西,事情. 这里是指CAROL把她的东西搬走了.
Eg. You like cooking? I am not interested in that kind of stuff.

PHOEBE: Ooh! Oh! (STARTS TO PLUCK AT THE AIR JUST IN FRONT OF ROSS)
*PHOEBE有时就是这么神神叨叨的.她觉的ROSS太倒霉了,觉的这样可以抓掉他的一些晦气.
*Pluck: 抓,揪
eg. She tried to pluck out some of her grey hairs.
Do you pluck your eyebrows?

ROSS: No, no don't! Stop cleansing my aura! No, just leave my aura alone, okay? I'll be fine, alright? Really, everyone. I hope she'll be very happy.
*显然ROSS并不喜欢她这样.ROSS可是一个古生物学家呢,他才不信这邪呢.但以ROSS的性格他也不会让PHOEBE难堪,所以他用反话来说:别赶走我的灵气.
*Aura: an effect or feeling that seems to surround and come from a person or place; (人或地方的)气氛,气息,韵味

MONICA: No you don't.

ROSS: No I don't, to hell with her, she left me!
*to hell with sb.某人下地狱去吧. 这句话在人们生气时也常用.

JOEY: And you never knew she was a lesbian...

*LESBIAN:女”同志”; GAY: 男”同志”;STRAIGHT:异性恋的。

ROSS: No!! Okay?! Why does everyone keep fixating on that? She didn't know, how should I know?
Fixate (on): Thinking, talking,etc. continuously about one particular thing, so as not to give enough attention to anything else. Eg. The popular newspapers seem to be fixated on stories about sex and drugs.

CHANDLER: Sometimes I wish I was a lesbian... (THE OTHERS STARE AT HIM) Did I say that out loud?
*CHANDLER本以为只有他自己能听见,但他说的太大声了…

JOEY: Alright Ross, look. You're feeling a lot of pain right now. You're angry. You're

hurting. Can I tell you what the answer is?

(ROSS GESTURES HIS CONSENT)
*ROSS示意让他说.

JOEY: Strip joint! C'mon, you're single! Have some hormones!
*Strip joint: 脱衣舞厅. Strip dance: 脱衣舞. Strip girl: 脱衣舞娘
*按照JOEY的理解,ROSS的痛苦只需解决了HORMONE的问题就可以解决了.可见他并不明白ROSS真正痛苦的原因.谁让JOEY是个PLAY BOY 呢?

ROSS: I don't want to be single, okay? I just... I just- I just wanna be married again!

(ENTER RACHEL IN A WET WEDDING DRESS. SHE STARTS TO SEARCH AROUND THE ROOM)

CHANDLER: And I just want a million dollars! (EXTENDS HIS HAND HOPEFULLY)
*CHANDLER看到ROSS刚说想结婚马上就有一个新娘出现,所以他说他想要一百万.这是CHANDLER的幽默之处.


MONICA: Rachel?!

RACHEL: Oh God Monica hi! I just went to your building and you weren't there and then this guy with a big hammer said you might be here and you are, you are!

WAITRESS: Can I get you some coffee?

MONICA: (POINTING AT RACHEL) De-caff. (TO THE GANG) Okay, everybody, this is Rachel, another Lincoln High survivor. (TO RACHEL) This is everybody, this is Chandler, and Phoebe, and Joey, and- you remember my brother Ross?

SCENE 2: MONICA'S APARTMENT (ALL PRESENT AND WATCHING A SPANISH SOAP ON TV)
*SPANISHI SOAP: 西班牙的肥皂剧.

MONICA: Now I'm guessing that he bought her the big pipe organ, and she's really not happy about it.

RACHEL: (ON PHONE) Daddy, I just... I can't marry him! I'm sorry. I just don't love him. Well, it matters to me!

ALL: Hey! Paul! Hi! The Wine Guy! Hey!

CHANDLER: I'm sorry, I didn't catch your name. Paul, was it?

MONICA: (SHOWS PAUL IN) Two seconds.

ROSS: (SQUATTING AND READING INSTRUCTIONS) I'm supposed to attach a brackety thing to the side things, using a bunch of these little whim guys. I have no brackety thing, I see no whim guys whatsoever and- I cannot feel my legs.

ROSS: (CLUTCHING A BEER CAN AND SNIFFING) This was Carol's favorite beer. She always drank it out of the can, I should have known.

ROSS: (SCORNFUL) Grab a spoon. Do you know how long it's been since I've grabbed a spoon? Do the words 'Billy, don't be a hero' mean anything to you? Y'know, here's the thing. Even if I could get it together enough to- to ask a woman out,... who am I gonna ask? (GAZES OUT OF THE WINDOW)

Billy, don’t be a hero是一首反战歌曲。是PAPER　LACE作于1974年。歌词内容是一个女孩不想让他的未婚夫BILLY上战场，但是BILLY一定要走，于是在他临走之前，女孩对他说：

And as they started to go, she cried, "Keep your pretty head low!

但最终BILLY还是在战场上光荣牺牲了。女孩在收到那封内容为讲述BILLY英勇牺牲事迹的信后，将那封信扔掉了。这首歌是想告诉人们战争是残酷的，不论我们为之赋予多少荣誉，在战争中没有胜利者。
ROSS在这里提到这句歌词，是想说他之所以不愿去象JOEY一样，是因为他认为这是一件两败俱伤的事。这可能就是我们平时说的“爱情是一把双刃剑”，我们不能玩火自焚。显然ROSS并不明白JOEY只是让他去象一个PLAYBOY一样游戏，并不要付出什么真感情，这就是ROSS和JOEY两人爱情观的根本差异。

CHANDLER: That is amazing.

JOEY: Congratulations. And while you're on a roll, if you feel like you gotta make like a Western omelette or something... (JOEY AND CHANDLER TASTE THE COFFEE, GRIMACE, AND POUR IT INTO A PLANT POT) Although actually I'm really not that hungry...
