Man and Environment-Problems and Solutions

Nowadays the problems of our natural environment have become increasingly serious. At present there are three major kinds of environment problems including environment pollution, desertification and the extinction of wild animals.

1. Environment pollution

Environment pollution is one of the most serious problems of the modern world. Take the air pollution as an example. Not only factories but also cars, trains and planes need a great deal of energy, most of which is produced from burning fuels. The waste of the burning process then remains in the air and leads to air pollution. And to resume water pollution, rivers, lakes and even oceans all over the world are becoming polluted with rubbish and dangerous chemicals. As we all know, polluted water is a public danger, since none of us can live without water.

Fortunately, scientists are taking measures to stop environment pollution, especially in big industrial areas and densely populated cities. However, it seems that we still have a long way to go before the blue sky and clean water come back.

2. Desertification

Desertification, the name for what happens when farmable land is turned into desert, is a growing world problem. Without enough land to grow crops, it is impossible for farmers to support the growing population in the whole world. Under such severe circumstance, many countries are working hard to combat desertification, China included. Continuously we have been building a ‘Green Wall’ of plants and bushes in the north-east part of the country that could grow even longer than the Great Wall. As a saying goes, ‘Many a little makes a mickle.’ So long as we go on with this programme, I am sure that we will contribute to stopping desertification.

3. The extinction of wild animals

Due to the world’s increasing population as well as the endless expansion of us human being, less and less room is left on our planet for wild animals. Unless something is done, some rare animals will die out, which also means a disaster to us. We have already lost some species, and we do not want to lose more. So my suggestion is that laws be carried out to prevent the use or sale of meat and furs from rare wild animals.

All in all, environment problems do exist, and only when we all realize the serious situation and do our best to protect the environment, can they be really settled. Protecting our earth is not a piece of slogan. Instead, it calls for every one of us to do every thing we can do, so that the earth will be our beautiful home forever.
