2011年6月23日，首都北京街头不少行人和车辆都被泡在水中。大雨导致140架航班被延误，阻碍道路交通并造成了下班高峰期的两条地铁线路停运。
Heavy rains pounded most parts of the Chinese capital, and the cityof about 20 million people received 35 millimeters of precipitation by 5p.m., according to a statement issued by the Beijing MeteorologicalBureau。
直到昨天下午5点，北京气象局发布的声明称此次暴雨袭击了北京的大部分地区，这座约有2千万常住人口的城市降雨量达到了35毫米。
"Precipitation in the Shijingshan district reached 165 millimetersby 5:30 p.m.," said Sun Jisong, chief engineer of the bureau。
北京市气象台首席预报员孙继松表示：“截至下午5点30分，石景山地区的降水量甚至达到了165毫米。”
According to Sun, although the heavy downpour stopped around 8 p.m.Light rains are expected to continue into Thursday night and Fridaymorning。

"The water in a low-lying section of the southern Third Ring Road is knee-deep," said a Beijing resident surnamed Wang。

Wang said she saw a dozen cars suffer from engine failures as aresult of the flooded roads, with drivers having to push their carsforward with their bare hands。
王女士还告诉我们，她看到了不少汽车在水中熄火，车主不得不徒手推着他们的车在水中艰难行走。
A driver surnamed Cao said it took her nearly an hour and a half toreach a destination just a few kilometers away, due to the gridlockedroads。
一位曹姓司机说，由于严重的交通堵塞，本来很短的一段路，她花了一个半小时才开到目的地。
More than 7,000 traffic policemen are working to ease the gridlock, according to the traffic management bureau。
