An earthquake measuring 5.9 on the Richter scale jolted Kermadec Islands region at 0715 GMT on Monday, the U.S. Geological Survey said.

The epicenter, with a depth of 9.70 km, was initially determined to be at 29.4820 degrees south latitude and 176.5133 degrees west longitude.
