Three people were killed and five others wounded, including three Norwegian contractors, in separate bomb and gunfire attacks in Baghdad, an Interior Ministry source said on Monday.

In central Baghdad, gunmen in a car shot dead a traffic policeman by their silenced weapons in Alawi area, the source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.

In a separate incident, a policeman was killed when a sticky bomb attached to his car detonated in Baghdad's southwestern district of al-Saidiyah, the source said.

In northeastern the capital, gunmen using pistols fitted with silencers shot dead a civilian late on Sunday night in the predominantly Shi'ite district of al-Hurriyah, the source added.

Earlier on Monday, the police reported that a roadside bomb struck a convoy of vehicles carrying Norwegian contractors working on a project for Iraq's Water Resources Ministry in New Baghdad district in southeastern the capital, wounding three Norway nationals and two Iraqi policemen guarding their convoy.

Violence in the country underscores the challenges that the Iraqi security forces are facing as they struggle to restore stability and normalcy in Iraqi cities months before the departure of all U.S. forces by the end of 2011.
